Activist and Author:

Doug Hughes

American former postal worker and political activist, known for landing a one-man ultralight gyrocopter on the lawn of the United States Capitol on April 15, 2015.

A True Tale

A good story is timeless. When that story is true, it’s even better. The adventure of a lifetime intersects the crisis of a generation in the memoir, FLIGHT PLAN.

On April 15, 2015, Doug Hughes flew an ultralight gyrocopter 70 miles across Maryland, landing on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building, uninvited and unannounced. The mailman from Florida carried 535 letters, one for every member of Congress, demanding an end to institutional corruption. That part of the story you may remember.

You never heard the captivating tale that led to the audacious act of civil disobedience. After landing, the Department of Justice threatened nine years in prison for a demonstration which injured no one and did no property damage.
